If you know of any other Christmas programs that have not been included, please send them to us and we will pass them along. Have a safe and blessed Christmas season,

Our Abbreviated Bio:
Teaching Heritage Through Living History
The Discovery Expedition of St. Charles consists of volunteers, like their predecessors, sail separated from swift waters and eternity only by thin-but-sturdy layers of wood. Whether in buckskins or uniforms, their clothing accurately re-creates the dress of 1804. Their weapons are firelocks. They cook over campfires. They sleep under canvas. They know their history, and they teach. The Discovery Expedition is the only living history group who have crafted replica boats for the longest reenactment journey ever attempted…and successful completed.
By bringing Lewis and Clark to life on the banks of rivers—and in classrooms and gyms— the Discovery Expedition re-enactors have helped tens of thousands of school children see their teachers as storytellers and know that history is high adventure.
What’s more, over 800,000+ visitors—some avid students of history, some newly curious—have come to the riverbanks to inspect the boats, experience the period campsites, enjoy demonstrations of technology and events described in journals from almost 200 years ago, and share Discovery.
Uniquely Qualified to Recapture Adventure
Each reenactment, each voyage of rediscovery proves out the boats, recruits new re-enactors to the modern Corps of Discovery (as Thomas Jefferson dubbed the original band of United States Army recruits), and adds to our understanding of what our predecessors achieved.
In their years of reenacting, thousands of river-miles, and hundreds of campsites along the Ohio, Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, from Pennsylvania to South Dakota, the Discovery Expedition of St. Charles has brought adventure to large cities like Pittsburgh, Louisville and Kansas City as well as towns who count their souls in scores instead of thousands: Lupus, Mo.; Rabbit Hash, Ky.
The Discovery Expedition of St. Charles, Mo., with its corps of more than 200 re-enactors, have developed the necessary contacts, unique preparation and credibility required to assume the flagship role of the recent Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commemoration just completed, ...reenacting in 2003 to 2006 their journey on the Ohio, Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, across the Great Rocky Mountains down the Columbia to the Pacific and back again. They were continually featured by their knowledge, craft, and skills in the “Tent of Many Voices” presented on tour across the country by the National Parks Department. They have truly proven themselves with many others of their kind to be a Living National Treasure. The Final Journey of Meriwether Lewis in October of this year has truly been an event to remember as we memorialize the fallen hero so often overlook. The Discovery Expedition was there at the National Landmark with 1500 others, and was without a doubt likely considered their finest moment in tribute to the famed explorer and the Legend of Lewis & Clark.
Living History Interpreters of Our National Heritage,
If you have that passion to recreate this adventure for yourself, the Discovery Expedition maybe your trail to living history. Contact

Lindenwood Center for the Arts “A Christmas Carol”
December 3 - 5, 2009 / 7:30 PM
December 6, 2009 / 2:00 PM
Ebenezer Scrooge is a penny-pinching miser in the first degree. He cares nothing for the people around him and mankind exists only for the money that can be made through exploitation and intimidation. He particularly detests Christmas which he views as 'a time for finding yourself a year older, and not an hour richer'. Scrooge is visited, on Christmas Eve, by the ghost of his former partner Jacob Marley who died seven Christmas Eves ago.
Marley, a miser from the same mold as Scrooge, is suffering the consequences in the afterlife and hopes to help Scrooge avoid his fate. He tells Scrooge that he will be haunted by three spirits, the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future.

Play Pretty Productions, Columbia, MO
Tom Verdot's inventive sparkling lead fiddle, accompanied by Thom Howard's energetic fingerstyle guitar forms the basis of their concerts. They have been known to include vintage banjos and mandolins as well. In other venues, Thom and Tom perform swing concerts and dances, living history events and traditional American fiddle music for dances, re-enactments, and historic commemoration events. They've taken their music to Brussels for a concert of early swing fiddle at the national Musical Instruments Museum, and they perform around the US and in Europe as a duo and with the classic string band The Skirtlifters.
The Historic 1791 Borromeo Log Church is a volunteer reconstruction of the original Borromeo parish church built of vertically placed cedar logs. Funds are needed for landscaping, which will include native MO plants, a stone wall and a cedar fence. Funds are also needed for display cases inside the church and two permanent signs outside the church. Tickets are $15 per person.
