Volunteers are needed to help with inspecting, sorting, and repackaging of donated food and non-food items; labeling and repackaging bulk food donations/or unlabeled food donations; and building “assembly-line” style government food boxes for primarily low income elderly people.
Groups of 20-80 people may volunteer at one time. They do not accept walk-ins. All volunteers must schedule their visit in advance. Visits are scheduled up to 6 months in advance. Their volunteer hours of service are 9 am to 4 pm Mondays and Wednesdays, 9 am to 7 pm Tuesdays, and 9 am to 3 pm on Thursdays. They do request you commit to a minimum of a 3 hour shirt from 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm ( or 4pm-7pm Tues Only).

Adopt-A-Trail

http://mdc.mo.gov/ The Missouri Department of Conservation's Adopt-A-Trail Program is a volunteer program providing opportunities for hikers, bicyclists and equestrians to assist conservation area staff by monitoring, maintaining and enhancing trails and trailhead facilities. School and youth groups, scout troops, church, community and service organizations, businesses, families, individuals or groups of individuals can adopt a trail. Anyone with an interest in trails and the outdoors is welcome to help preserve our land and provide safe, enjoyable access to the outdoors. Adopt-A-Trail volunteers assist Conservation Area staff in managing and maintaining trail systems. Activities include keeping the trail surface free of sticks, rocks and other debris, pruning small limbs from the trail corridor, cleaning waterbars and drainage ditches, and clearing debris from bridges, stairs, and viewing decks. Other responsibilities include litter clean-up, maintaining the trailhead area including parking lot, bulletin board and trail signs, and reporting vandalism, trail hazards or safety issues.

Missouri Coalition for the Environment works to preserve, protect, and enhance an environment that is livable, healthful, and sustainable through a comprehensive program of education, citizen action, and legal defense. They also host an Annual Coalition and Friends of Ozark Riverways Current River Clean Up (from Rachael Whaley)Canoe and Clean Up the Current River, usually held in October.

The Saint Louis County Department of Health offers community service projects for people of all ages, starting at age 14. The Center for Hearing & Speech is a non profit organization that offers evaluations and therapy to children of all ages with a variety of disorders including speech and language delays, stuttering, language and articulation disorders and auditory processing disorders. We have several volunteer positions available for children 14 years and older. Currently we have a couple of home schooled volunteers, which is what gave me the idea to post our volunteer opportunities on St. Louis homeschoolers websites.
